Genesis 1 King James Version (KJV)
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
Notice:
- time of literal day and night is not established yet. Only in verse 3, is night and day first mentioned.
- the heaven and earth is not identical to the heavens and earth that we are given to understand later.
- “In the beginning….” refer to the beginning, before day and night were established.
- If God is light, why was there darkness upon the face of the deep? Darkness and waste and chaos are always the result of sin.
Regarding point 3, it is my belief that between verse 1 and 2, the spirits – angels and archangels, morning stars and and sons of the morning, cherubim and seraphim, with Michael and Gabriel were created. The problem of sin was thus in existence long before the fall of Adam in the Garden of Eden.
